Mosque Protesters Do Not Reflect NY

First of all I am New Yorker from da Bronx. I lost a close friend on 9/11. A Muslim friend. What about his family’s pain? What about mine? Oh we are people of “color” therefore nothing that matters to us matters to “them”. You know who “they” are. The people from other parts of the country bussed in to make it seem like there is this big uprising of anti-Muslim sentiment in MY town.

They do not speak for me nor, I dare say most New Yorkers. New York is the original melting pot. The home of the Statue of Liberty dammit. Do the words on her book mean nothing any more?

“Give me your tired, your poor, Your huddled masses yearning to breathe free, The wretched refuse of your teeming shore. Send these, the homeless, tempest-tost to me, I lift my lamp beside the golden door!”

Are we not who we say we are to the rest of the world. The right says they hate us for our freedom. LIES, they hate us for the hypocrisy. We say we hold religious freedom as a high ideal then persecute, Jews, Catholics, Irish, Asians, Muslims, Middle Easterners, Blacks, Mexicans and any one else who is not of Caucasian European descent. Even those Europeans from whom most of the right wing fringe are descended are held in contempt.

So much energy wasted on hate, fear, and ignorance. Here we are faced with the worst economy in decades and instead of pulling together we are looking for reasons to hate each other. This is the poison that other countries older than ours do not want polluting their cultures. Can’t say I blame them. This aspect of Americana is is the most vile and ugly side of a shining city on a hill that George Bush I believed in, That Reagan believed in. That every red blooded American Patriot still believes in.

No we are not perfect. Neither is any Family. Look at your own. We are Americans we are family. We are soo much better that what we are showing to the rest of the world. We were once the envy of the world. Our goods in demand world wide. Then we stopped making things, became our children’s friends instead of their parents, stopped demanding excellence in everything we do and the magic was lost.

I am old enough to remember those glory days when excellence in everything we did was expected like breathing. Some where along the line, money, the top 2 percent, the Skull and Bones, the robber barons, the bigots, the ignorant and the fools took over and destroyed the greatness that was once America. The America I love. An America where the Constitution is not a document to be cherry-picked apart to further one’s own narrow-minded spew; but a document to be revered, held sacred, guarded and protected to the dying breath of by those we elect to office. Hey Supreme Court, What corporation is even remotely interested in this reverence?

“I want my country back” is the rallying cry for the addle minded, bigoted, scared, sheep that the right call it’s base. Dems you are no better. You were given a mandate to get things done. To friggin fix what is broken and you allowed them to water down and de-fang everything that we asked of you in the name of this mythical allusion called bi-partisanship? Do you get it yet? They want nothing more than power back!! They will help you do nothing even to the detriment of the people they claim to represent. Do you friggin see who you are dealing with yet? Enough with the bitchassness. Start thinking for yourselves, Americans and stop swallowing the “kool-aid” that the talking point merchants keep repeating as fact and for God’s sake stop watching Fox and listening to Limbaugh. That programming has been proven to cause brain damage and and an intellectual laziness we simply can not afford to let continue.

I WANT MY COUNTRY BACK!!

The country of excellence where American exceptional-ism is not a buzz word but a fact.

Don’t Tax The Energy Companies?

Are you kidding? The petroleum industry is one of the few that has had record breaking profits soar on the backs of the vanishing American middle class. We have paid and are paying more for this dirty means of powering our life styles and necessities in the destruction of our once pristine treasures, our once beautiful coastline and wetlands in the Gulf of Mexico. We are paying through artificial manipulation of fuel costs. Have you noticed how prices spike whenever there is a perceived spike in consumption? Have you gone to fill up your vehicles during the work week and the minute a holiday approaches the price per gallon leaps up 25 cents, 50 cents, 75 cents up to a dollar more? Have you noticed that during the colder months the prices remain at humane levels but as soon as the warm weather beckons us to travel to see loved ones or just get away from it all, again, you see the spikes?

The petroleum industry has trotted out a new piece of propaganda showing people who are supposed to represent the real America. They are the common man saying that we should not raise taxes on the industry that has abused us, destroyed our resources and sent us into unjust wars, all in the quest for more of this disgusting fuel.  Here is the commercial. Try to suppress your natural gag reflexes as the lie continues:

I don’t fault the people in the commercial for as the Lord once said, “…forgive them for they know not what they do”

There is a huge population that allows themselves to be informed by corporate owned propaganda machines. It is an intellectual laziness that will prove to be the undoing of our cherished union. These “news” and “grass roots” organizations spew the lies and talking points through the megaphone of Fox News. Fox News no longer holds the pretense of a journalistic organization. By donating 1 million dollars brazenly to the Republican party, they have exposed themselves as a propaganda wing of that party. And still our neighbors like the ones in the commercial say what they say.

The polls say that the party we as a nation put into a tenuous majority to save our middle class are getting beaten down. I, for one don’t trust the polls that are cited by both Fox and my beloved MSNBC. How are these questions asked such that they yield a result that the party that has said NO to anything that would help the middle class. That would demonize people who have been unemployed for more than 99 weeks as hobos, bums, as people who would rather sit home and collect a meager check than to slave away at below minimum wage job for their 40 hours a week.

This is not the America we once were. The Congress will appropriate millions of dollars to help any country that has suffered a natural disaster when if the same dollars were applied at home to help its own citizens they will say NO. The charity of our nation is the stuff of legend except when it comes tour own citizens. The people of this country will cry their eyes out over an abused dog or cat but a family that has lost their home, can not feed themselves, they are dead beats who deserve nothing. “Whatsoever you do to these the least of my brothers, that you do unto me” . The big companies do not care about you and spend millions of dollars to pay for politicians to lie to you.

Have WE not had enough of “business” taking a dump on us. We were once customers. We became consumers. The word customer had a certain reverence as someone whose trust must be won. Now we are just consumers who give potential upsides to their bottom line. Service has gone down and we are treated as those who should feel blessed that they would deign to offer their services to us. Well, when they are the only game in town, the deck is already stacked in their favor. They have discovered that they don’t need to take care of their customers. All they need to do is cut a check to your local congressman through “lobbying” spelled BRIBERY.

Don’t tax the energy companies indeed. We need to tax the crap out of these, the enemy from within. They owe US, THE FRIGGIN CUSTOMER a rebate!!!
